Based in Louisville, Kentucky, Republic Machine is a leading designer and manufacturer of single shaft shredders in North America. Republic Machine has produced over 250 single shaft shredders and has introduced a number of design innovations to the single shaft shredder that have enhanced cutting, product feed, power train, and control systems—many of which are patented or have patents pending.  These innovations have proven dramatic increases in machine performance, increased productivity, and stronger operational integrity while improving buyers’ return on investment. 

Republic Machine is no newcomer to design development for greater performance and the manufacturing of reliable heavy equipment.   Beginning in December of 2000, it began manufacturing machines under its own brand of Republic Machine™.  Our foothold started in the wood industry and quickly moved to the plastic, plastic purging, film, fiber, carpet and solid waste recycling markets.

Republic’s history dates to 1911 with a focus on the heavy mechanical and industrial field.  Republic’s entry into the shredder industry began after more than 30 years of experience demonstrating excellent problem solving and design innovations employing large rotating shaft machinery i.e. rock crushers, hammer mills, and surface mining equipment.  The processes required for these high mortality products correlate directly to those required for shredders.  The metallurgical expertise, robust mechanical designs, drive train reliability, and electrical/computer control expertise have been the key drivers for Republic’s product line in the shredder industry.  Republic’s heavy emphasis on engineering combined with 3-D CAD capability has allowed rapid introduction of design innovations into the shredder marketplace.  Republic gained a reputation of building and rebuilding equipment and components “Republic-Tough”.

Republic Machine has recently applied for patents on new technologies.  The newest application addresses the inherent issues with maintenance, cleanout and product changeover problems for the processing of diverse materials.  For example, the adjustment of the cutting “gap” is accomplished in less than 20 minutes.  Replacement of cutters and counter knives is now done in a worker friendly environment; standing, waist high, easy access, etc.   Republic Machine also has a unique patent pending cutting system specifically designed for fiber, rubber, and film.  These patents open up significant new markets for the single shaft shredder, plus increase production efficiency and decrease costly downtime for the end user.
